Barbeled Dragonfishes [Stomiidae]
Description
Stomiidae, or barbeled dragonfishes, are a family of deep-sea fish known for their bioluminescent organs, which they use to attract prey in the dark depths of the ocean. They have elongated bodies, large mouths filled with sharp teeth, and a distinctive barbel attached to their chins, which is tipped with a light-producing organ called a photophore. These fishes are found in all oceans, typically at depths below 200 meters. Their diet mainly consists of other small fish and crustaceans.
