Messmate pipefish [Corythoichthys haematopterus]
Description
The Messmate pipefish, known scientifically as Corythoichthys haematopterus, is a marine species primarily found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They are characterized by their elongated bodies, distinct color patterns, and the presence of a long, slender snout. They inhabit coral reefs and seagrass beds and have been known to form large aggregations. This species exhibits an unusual reproductive strategy in which the males carry the fertilized eggs in a brood pouch located on the underside of the tail.
