Longfin Eel [Anguilla reinhardtii]
Description
The Longfin Eel is a species of eel in the family Anguillidae. It is native to the rivers and streams of eastern Australia, New Zealand, and New Caledonia. The eels are catadromous, living in fresh water but migrating to the ocean to breed. They are nocturnal predators, feeding on a variety of prey including fish, crustaceans, and various invertebrates. Distinguishing features include a long dorsal fin that begins well forward on the body and a dark brown to greenish color.
