Japanese Beardfish [Polymixia japonica]
Description
The Japanese Beardfish is found in the Northwest Pacific, specifically in the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea. It lives at depths between 200 and 400 meters. It has a slim, elongated body that can reach lengths of up to 40 centimeters. It is characterized by its small, beard-like barbels beneath the lower jaw.
