Description

The Humpback smooth-head, also known as Alepisaurus ferox, is a species of lancetfish. The species is pelagic, living in the open ocean, and it is known to inhabit waters from the surface to as deep as 1,830 meters. The Humpback smooth-head is characterized by its elongated body, large mouth, and dorsal fin with a high anterior lobe. This predatory species has a worldwide distribution in tropical and temperate seas, but it is not commonly seen due to its deep-sea habitat.
