Greater pipefish [Syngnathus acus]
Description
The Greater pipefish is a species that inhabits marine, brackish, and occasionally freshwater. They are found in the Eastern Atlantic, from Norway to Morocco, and throughout the Mediterranean and Black Seas. They are characterized by their elongated body and brownish color with blue spots and streaks. They usually live in eelgrass beds and are known for their peculiar mating system where the male carries the eggs.
