European anchovy [Engraulis encrasicolus]
Description
The European anchovy is a small schooling fish that is found in the Mediterranean, Black, and Aegean Seas, as well as in the Atlantic Ocean. They are often found in large schools near the surface, especially in plankton-rich waters. They are characterized by their green-blue back, silver-white sides and belly, and a large mouth that extends behind the eye.
