Euplectella oweni [Euplectella oweni]

Description
Euplectella oweni is a marine sponge species that belongs to the Euplectella genus. Much like its relatives, it has a skeleton made of silica that forms a complex, glass-like structure. These sponges are typically found anchored to soft sediments on the ocean floor. They are filter feeders, extracting nutrients from the water that flows through their porous bodies. Not much is known about this species, as it is extremely rare and difficult to study in its natural habitat.
