Description

Euplectella, also known as Venus' flower baskets, are a well-known genus of glass sponges. These sponges have a distinctive cylindrical, often vase-like body with a complex, beautiful lattice skeleton made of silica. Euplectella species are found in deep-sea environments and are celebrated for their symbiotic relationship with certain marine shrimp that live inside the sponge for life.
