This species is known to inhabit the Mediterranean Sea, specifically the areas around Italy. Its habitat comprises of muddy bottoms where it burrows. The adult worm measures about 2 cm in length. A distinguishing feature of Cossura pygodactylata is its paddle-like foot, which gives the species its common name.
