Common Calcisponge [Sycon carteri]

Description
Sycon carteri, or the Common Calcisponge, is a marine sponge found often in temperate waters. It has a tubular shape and an osculum at the tip, surrounded by a fringe of spicules. The sponge is generally white to pale pink and has a firm, brittle texture. It feeds by filtering microscopic particles from the water.
