Broad-snouted Caiman [Caiman latirostris]
Description
The Broad-snouted Caiman is a crocodilian reptile found in eastern and central South America, including southeastern Brazil, northern Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia. It is a medium to large sized reptile that can reach lengths of up to 3.5 meters. The species is named for its broad snout, which is wider than that of any other living member of the Crocodylia. This species inhabits freshwater environments like rivers, lakes, and marshes, and also adapts well to human-impacted habitats. It is a generalist and opportunistic predator, capable of taking a wide range of prey, and is also noted for its parental care, with females guarding nests and young after hatching.
