Blueback Herring [Alosa aestivalis]
Description
The Blueback Herring is a sea-run clupeid native to the Atlantic coast of North America, from Nova Scotia to Florida. It is a small, schooling fish that spends most of its life in the ocean but migrates up freshwater rivers to spawn. It has a bluish-green back and silvery sides, and is named for the distinctive blue tint to the scales on its back.
