Blue Grenadier [Macruronus novaezelandiae]
Description
The Blue Grenadier is a species of merluccid hake, native to southern Australia and New Zealand. They are found at depths between 10 to 800 meters, although they are most commonly found between 200 and 400 meters. They have elongated bodies, a characteristic of other fish in the merluccid hake family. They are silver-blue in color, and grow up to 1.3 meters in length. Their diet primarily includes squid, crustaceans, and smaller fish. The species is commercially important, and is harvested for food.
