Description
Pinctada fucata, commonly known as the Akoya pearl oyster or the Japanese pearl oyster, is native to the Pacific Ocean, along the coasts of Japan and China. It is most famous for producing high quality, lustrous pearls that are typically white or cream in color with overtones of rose, silver, or cream. The Akoya oyster is relatively small, typically reaching 5-8 cm in diameter.
