Description
The Common Nutmeg is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cancellariidae. It is native to the western Atlantic Ocean, from North Carolina to the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. The common nutmeg has a shell that is typically 25-30 mm long, with a characteristic net-like pattern on the surface. It inhabits shallow, sandy or muddy areas, where it preys on bivalves and detritus.
