Description
Acanthocardia, or nut cockles, are a genus of marine bivalves with thick, robust shells characterized by strong radial ribs and often spiny surfaces. These cockles inhabit sandy and muddy bottoms in shallow to deep marine environments. Nut cockles are filter feeders, using their siphon to extract plankton and organic matter from the surrounding water.
