Zalieutes [Zalieutes]

Description

Zalieutes species are among the smaller representatives of the batfish family, notable for their compact, disk-like bodies and relatively smooth skin, lacking the pronounced skin appendages of some other genera. They inhabit tropical and subtropical waters, often found on muddy or sandy substrates where their subdued coloration helps them avoid detection. Despite their size, they are effective ambush predators, feeding on small fish and invertebrates that venture too close.
