Description
Trachyrincus species are unique within the Macrouridae family for their rough, armored scales and shorter, more compact bodies. These fishes are adapted to life on or near the deep ocean floor, feeding on invertebrates and detritus. Their armor-like scales provide protection against predators in these harsh environments.
