Thermobiotes [Stemonidium]
Description
Stemonidium is a lesser-known genus within the family Serrivomeridae, distinguished by its unique physiological and anatomical adaptations to deep-sea environments. This genus is less studied than Serrivomer, but it shares several common characteristics with its family members, such as the elongated body shape and a preference for deep-sea habitats. Research on Stemonidium is limited, and most of what is known comes from incidental catches and deep-sea exploration missions. These eels are thought to play a role in the deep-sea food web, feeding on smaller fish and invertebrates.
