Squaretail mullets [Paracrenimugil]

Description

Paracrenimugil, known as squaretail mullets, include species with notably squared-off tails, differentiating them from other mullets. This genus is recently described and has species found in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around Australia and Southeast Asia. They prefer shallow, coastal waters and are often seen in clear waters over sandy or rocky bottoms. Squaretail mullets are of interest for their distinct tail shape and contribution to the ecosystem as foragers.
