Spine-bellied Sea Snakes [Lapemis]

Description

Lapemis genus, which includes the well-known Spine-bellied sea snake, comprises species that are remarkable for their relatively short, stout bodies and the presence of a distinct ridge or 'spine' running down their belly. These sea snakes are primarily found in the Indo-Pacific region, from the coasts of India to northern Australia. They are highly adapted to a life in shallow coastal waters, including estuaries and mangroves. Their diet mainly consists of eels and small fish.
