Slim Eels [Neoconger]
Description
The genus Neoconger, known as slim eels, belongs to the family Moringuidae. Like their relatives, they have elongated, slender bodies but are distinguished by certain anatomical features, such as the position and structure of their nostrils and the presence of small, but distinct, pectoral fins. Neoconger species are found in tropical and subtropical marine environments, where they live in burrows within sandy or muddy substrates. They share similar ecological roles to Moringua, feeding on small invertebrates and using their burrows as protection from predators.
