Silk Scallops [Similipecten]

Description
Similipecten is a genus within the Propeamussiidae family, distinguished by its species' small, silky, and often brightly colored shells. These scallops inhabit deep and cold parts of the ocean, where they live on soft sediments or are sometimes attached to substrates in relatively nutrient-poor environments. The name 'silk scallops' comes from the smooth texture of their shells, which are adapted to minimize friction and possibly deter predators in their deep-sea habitat.
