Siberian Sturgeons [Pseudoscaphirhynchus]
Description
Pseudoscaphirhynchus is a genus of sturgeons native to the Amu Darya and Syr Darya river basins of Central Asia. Unlike their larger relatives, these sturgeons are adapted to life in fast-flowing rivers rather than marine environments. They are characterized by their smaller size, more pronounced snout, and the ability to burrow into sandy riverbeds. Despite being freshwater species, their life cycle and ecological adaptations provide important insights into the evolutionary history and diversity of the family Acipenseridae.
