Salmincola [Salmincola]
Description
Salmincola genus members are parasitic copepods that predominantly target salmonids, hence their name. They attach to the gills, skin, and sometimes the fins of their hosts, causing salmincolosis. These parasites are equipped with powerful appendages for attachment, and their lifecycle includes free-swimming larval stages before settling on a host. Infestations can impair the host's growth and lead to secondary infections.
