Pointed Skate [Raja]

Description

Raja is one of the best-known genera of skates, with species distributed widely in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. These skates are characterized by their pointed snouts, large pectoral fins which are rounded at the tips, and a variety of dorsal surface patterns including spots, stripes, and marbled designs. Raja species are versatile in habitat preference, found from shallow coastal waters down to the continental slopes. They are predators, feeding on a wide range of seabed organisms.
