Pincushion Skate [Neoraja]
Description
Neoraja is a genus of small skates found in the northeast Atlantic Ocean, including areas around the Iberian Peninsula and the Gulf of Gascony. They are notable for their small size, typically not exceeding 30 centimeters in length. Their bodies are covered in small thorns and spines, giving them a pincushion-like appearance. These skates inhabit deep waters, often beyond 400 meters, where they feed on a variety of benthic organisms.
