Description

Neonesthes is a genus within the Astronesthidae family, representing a group of deep-sea fish known for their slender bodies and pronounced bioluminescent properties. Species of Neonesthes are adapted to life in the abyssal and hadal zones of the ocean, where light does not penetrate. They utilize their bioluminescence for attracting mates and luring prey, with specialized photophores distributed along their undersides. These fish are also characterized by their large, toothy mouths, capable of consuming prey nearly their own size.
