Nacella [Nacella]
Description
Nacella is a genus of sea snails that belong to the family of necklace shells. These limpets are primarily found in the Southern Hemisphere, particularly in cold and temperate waters of the Southern Ocean around Antarctica, South America, and islands of the Southern Pacific. Nacella species are characterized by their smooth or slightly ribbed, oval to conical shells, which are adapted to cling tightly to rocky substrates in wave-swept shores. They are important grazers in their habitats, feeding mainly on microscopic algae. The genus includes species that are adapted to a wide range of environmental conditions, from intertidal zones to depths of several meters.
