Necklace shells [Nacellidae]
Description
Nacellidae, or necklace shells, are a family of marine limpets that resemble true limpets but belong to a separate lineage. They typically have a more rounded, often oval, shell shape and can display a range of colors and patterns, sometimes resembling a necklace, hence their common name. They are found from the intertidal zone down to moderately deep waters, primarily on rocky substrates where they feed on algae. Nacellidae limpets are particularly common in colder waters, including those of the Southern Hemisphere and the Pacific Ocean.
