Marsupenaeus [Marsupenaeus]
Description
Marsupenaeus is a genus of parasitic isopods that preferentially target shrimp, particularly those in the genus Penaeus. These parasites attach to the gills or the inner wall of the carapace, causing physical damage and stress to the host. Marsupenaeus species are characterized by their marsupium, or brood pouch, which is used to carry and protect their offspring until they are ready to hatch and seek out hosts of their own.
