Malthopsis [Malthopsis]
Description
Malthopsis genus members are small to medium-sized batfishes known for their armored bodies and distinctive, often triangular, shape. They possess a hard carapace covered in bony plates, providing protection against predators. Found in deep waters across the globe, these batfishes are benthic predators, feeding on a diet of crustaceans and other small animals they encounter on the seafloor. Their unique body shape and armor make them one of the more easily recognizable batfish genera.
