Kitefin sharks [Dalatias]
Description
Dalatias is a genus within the Squalidae family, known as the kitefin sharks. These sharks are distinguishable by their large, kite-shaped dorsal fin and lack of anal fin. They possess luminous organs that make them one of the few bioluminescent shark species. Kitefin sharks are deep-sea dwellers, often found in tropical and temperate waters. They are solitary predators, feeding on a variety of fish and invertebrates. Despite their fearsome appearance, there is little known about their behavior due to their deep-sea habitat.
