Keeled mullets [Crenimugil]

Description

Crenimugil, known as keeled mullets, are distinguished by the presence of a keel along the belly in front of the pelvic fins. This genus is relatively less known and includes species that are mostly found in Indo-Pacific waters. Keeled mullets tend to inhabit coastal regions, often in proximity to coral reefs and estuaries. They are of interest to local fisheries and are known for their distinct morphological feature, the keel, which aids in their identification.
