Green Ibis [Mesembrinibis]
Description
Mesembrinibis is a genus that includes the Green Ibis, a bird with a predominantly dark, greenish-black plumage, which gives it its name. Found across Central and South America, from Honduras to northern Argentina, the Green Ibis prefers wetland habitats such as swamps and river forests. It is a nocturnal feeder, using its long bill to probe for insects, small fish, and crustaceans in the mud. Despite its wide range, little is known about its population size, though it is not currently considered threatened.
