Fleshy Sea Pens [Pteroeides]

Description

Pteroeides, or fleshy sea pens, are characterized by their robust and fleshy appearance, diverging from the slender form of other sea pen genera. This genus inhabits deeper parts of the ocean, anchoring in the soft seabed. They have a central axis from which branches and polyps extend, feeding on microscopic organisms. Their fleshy nature makes them less prone to predation compared to their more delicate counterparts.
