Filifera [Filifera]
Description
Filifera, as a genus, represents a group of hydroids within the family Tubulariidae characterized by their filamentous tentacles, which are numerous and often very fine, giving the genus its name. These tentacles are used for feeding on small planktonic organisms. Members of this genus exhibit both sessile and pelagic life stages, with the sessile stage being attached to substrates via a tube made of chitin. The pelagic stage, or medusa, is free-swimming and reproduces sexually, contributing to the distribution of the species.
