Dwarf Lightfishes [Pollichthys]
Description
Pollichthys is a genus within the family Phosichthyidae, known for its small, bioluminescent species. Dwarf lightfishes have compact bodies, large eyes, and are distinguished by their numerous, small photophores that line the underside of their bodies. These photophores help them in navigating the dark depths of the ocean, avoiding predators, and attracting prey. Species within this genus are typically found in deeper water columns of the ocean and are less well-known due to their elusive nature and the challenging depths at which they reside.
