Deep flounders [Citharichthys]
Description
Citharichthys is a genus comprising various species of flatfishes commonly referred to as sanddabs, whiffs, or deep flounders. These demersal fish are primarily found along the continental shelves of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. They have elongated bodies, both eyes on the right side, and are well adapted to life on soft substrates, where they feed on invertebrates. Some species are noted for their burrowing behavior and ability to change color for camouflage.
