Bluegrey Carpetsharks [Heteroscyllium]
Description
Heteroscyllium is a genus within the family Brachaeluridae, known for the bluegrey carpetshark. This genus is characterized by its unique coloration and patterns, which serve as excellent camouflage against the rocky and sandy bottoms of their ocean habitat. Found in the western Pacific Ocean, particularly around Australia, these sharks are relatively small and have slender, flexible bodies that allow them to navigate through complex reef environments. Like other members of the Brachaeluridae family, they are nocturnal predators, feeding on small fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans. Their reproductive mode is oviparous, laying eggs that blend into the ocean floor.
