Blue Mussels [Mytilus]

Description
Mytilus is a genus of medium to large, edible, saltwater mussels, marine bivalve mollusks in the family Mytilidae. Known for their distinctive blue to black shells, these mussels are widely distributed and are often found attached to rocks or other hard surfaces in intertidal and subtidal zones, forming dense beds that serve as important habitats for many other marine species. They are filter feeders, drawing in water to sieve out plankton and other small particles.
