Description

Odontaspis is a genus within the family Odontaspididae, known for the bigeye sand tiger and the smalltooth sand tiger sharks. These sharks are distinguished by their large eyes, which are adapted to their deep-water habitats, allowing them to see in dim light. They possess a body structure similar to the Carcharias genus, including the protruding, needle-like teeth. Bigeye sand tigers are found in temperate and tropical oceans worldwide. They are solitary hunters, primarily preying on fish and squid. Despite their menacing appearance, they are not considered a significant threat to humans.
