Auger shells [Terebra]
Description
Terebra is a genus of slender, elongate snails with tightly coiled shells, commonly known as auger shells. They are characterized by their numerous whorls and an elongated, tapering shape, resembling a corkscrew or auger. The shells are often ornately patterned with various colors. These snails are carnivorous, using a long proboscis to hunt and inject venom into their prey, typically worms and other small invertebrates. They inhabit sandy or muddy substrates in tropical and subtropical marine waters worldwide.
