Armored searobins [Peristedion]

Description

Peristedion is a genus of fish known for their distinctive armor-like bony head and body plates. Armored searobins inhabit sandy or muddy sea floors of continental shelves and slopes, often found at depths from shallow waters to over 400 meters. Their unique pectoral fins are used for 'walking' along the substrate and stirring up prey. The diet mainly consists of small invertebrates.
