Arachnactis [Arachnactis]
Description
Arachnactis refers to a group of tube anemones distinguished by their short, conical bodies and a radial arrangement of tentacles. This genus is less commonly observed than others in the family Cerianthidae, with species primarily found in deeper oceanic waters. The anemones of this genus construct tubes from a combination of mucus and debris, which serve as a protective retreat into which they can withdraw. They are opportunistic feeders, capturing plankton and small particles floating by in the water column.
