Tube Anemones [Cerianthidae]
Description
Cerianthidae, commonly known as tube anemones, are a family of ceriantharians that distinguish themselves by living in soft sediment, which they burrow into with their elongated bodies. They secrete a parchment-like tube, which they can retract into for protection. Unlike true anemones, they have two sets of tentacles: a smaller set around the mouth for feeding and a larger set that extends outward to catch prey. Tube anemones are noted for their often striking colors and can be found in oceans around the world.
