Antromysis [Antromysis]

Description

Antromysis is a genus within the Stygiomysida family, known for its specialized adaptations to cave and anchialine environments. Similar to other members of the family, Antromysis species exhibit reduced pigmentation and diminished eye structures, adaptations that are common among organisms living in the perpetual darkness of caves. They possess slender bodies and are equipped with appendages adapted for swimming in the relatively still waters of their habitats. The genus includes species that are detritivores, feeding on organic matter settled on the cave floors. Antromysis species are distributed in various locations around the world, each adapted to its unique subterranean marine ecosystem.
