True limpets [Patellidae]
Description
Patellidae, known as true limpets, is a family of small to large-sized marine gastropods. They have a distinctive simple conical shell, which is generally low and sometimes nearly flat. True limpets attach strongly to hard surfaces in the intertidal zones using their muscular foot. They are herbivorous, grazing on algae with their radula. The distribution of Patellidae is worldwide, from polar to tropical regions, predominantly found on rocky shores.
