Sap-sucking Slugs [Plakobranchidae]
Description
Plakobranchidae, commonly known as Sap-sucking Slugs, are a family of colorful marine gastropods that have evolved a unique feeding strategy. These slugs feed on the sap of algae, from which they can extract chloroplasts and incorporate them into their own tissues, a process known as kleptoplasty. This allows the slugs to photosynthesize like a plant, obtaining energy from sunlight. They are found in various marine environments, often seen grazing on algae on rocks and coral reefs.
